REVIEW: THE COMMUNAL PLACE AT JOO CHIAT

The Communal Place

Opening late last year at Joo Chiat, The Communal Place is a cafe and bar all in one. An industrial vibe with a touch of adolescent with assorted We Bare Bear plushies placed throughout the premises. We were there to try out their new mains such as pork ribs and spicy flower clams.

Address: 465 Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427677
Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 10am - 11pm
Sun 10am - 10.30pm

Spark JOY with this pork ribs that are marinated in garlic chili sauce. When setting aflame after adding liquor, an artful sprinkle of cinnamon imparts a smoky cinnamon flavor and also putting up a fiery show. The pork ribs are not only rich in flavor but also fall-off-the-bone tender.
For tomato sauce base pasta lovers, the beef ragu pasta is for you! Al dente strands of spaghetti tossed in Pomodoro sauce with poached egg and finally showered in parmesan cheese. The beef ragu is cooked slow and low until it basically falls apart. It's hearty, flavourful and I love that the sweetness of the tomatoes is prominent. Break the poached egg and let the runny egg yolk drip their way down the spaghetti.

As we had 4 of us, we thought of ordering some dishes to share as well. One of the friends suggested the Truffle Fries. It came in this HUGE basket of shoestring fries with parmesan cheese on top and a generous dousing of truffle oil.

We also ordered the spicy flower clams which are garnished with parsley and stirred with chili padi. This came with ciabatta toasts to dip into the broth. The briny and sweet flavors of clams pair perfectly with the spicy chili padi is heavenly. I had a taste of the broth and it was oh so SPICY.

Last but not least, we had the duck confit that came with baby potatoes, Israeli Couscous salsa, and glazed vegetables. Tender duck meat with a rich and slightly salty flavor.

Finishing up the night with DESSERTS!
The Tiramisu dessert came plated delicately with berries and almond decorating the plate with a cup of mascarpone custard, coffee cremeux, and Kahlua jelly. A dusting of cocoa powder at the top with honeycomb crumbles.

Wafflelicious
Crispy waffle with ice cream, crumbles and berry medley.

Preferred the tiramisu more than the waffle.

Thanks to @jennacbear for extending the invite and @thecommunalplace for hosting us!
