REVIEW: Good Xi An food in Singapore: BIANG BIANG NOODLES at Toa Payoh, Singapore

Biang Biang Noodle is located near the HDB hub and Toa Payoh Bus Interchange. When you exit the MRT station at Level 1, you will see a sizeable atrium where events are held frequently. Straight ahead there's one side where the fast-food restaurants are located and the other side is the shops. Right behind the shops are the eateries. Many hidden gems are located there and Biang Biang is one of them.

As the name suggests, Biang Biang noodles specialize in Xi'an food.
Some background on Biang Biang noodles before I dive into the review.
Hailing from Shannxi Province where Biang Biang noodles originate, they are commonly wide, thick, and hand-made thus the uneven texture enables the sauce to coat the noodles well. There are many characters for the word biang. It was invented to describe the sound made from the noodles getting slapped and stretched against a table, or perhaps the sound made when chewing them.

Generally eaten during the wintertime, spicy chili oils are combined with noodles to raise the body temperature. Having experienced winter in Japan before, I know what a bowl of hot noodles can do for you.

The noodles, touted as one of the "eight strange wonders of Shaanxi" (陕西八大怪), are described as being like a belt, owing to their thickness and length. The noodles come with lots of pork cubes, tomatoes with scrambled eggs, thinly sliced cucumber, and Chili flakes, giving the noodles a tangy and sweet finish. It is served in a lovely bowl with blue flowery intricate patterns lining the inner part of the bowl. The spicy and tangy sauce not only whets your appetite but makes you want more of that long and wide noodles! I find myself cutting the noodles into parts as it is hard to slurp the long noodles. 😅
