REVIEW: Good Halal Cafe in Singapore: The Malayan Council at Rochor Singapore

The Malayan Council is a two-story cafe that boasts a diverse selection of Western Malayan cuisine, featuring dishes ranging from pasta and brunch items to cakes, drinks, and salads. Conveniently located within walking distance from Rochor MRT Station, it sits along Dunlop Street.

One standout dish is the King Prawns Aglio Olio, which comprises two king prawns and three mussels served over al dente pasta cooked with garlic and arugula, finished with a drizzle of olive oil. Despite its spiciness and relatively high price tag of $25, some patrons may find the pricing at the Malayan Council to be on the steeper side. However, the pasta itself is commendable, with well-prepared prawns. Yet, for those expecting a Japanese tempura-like experience, the prawns may fall short, as they could benefit from a longer frying time to avoid a crunchy texture reminiscent of shells.

On the sweeter side, the Ondeh Ondeh cake stands out as a delightful treat. Comprising a fluffy sponge with crunchy brown bits and a pronounced Pandan flavor, it proves to be a hit with patrons. Notably, this delectable dessert was provided as a complimentary offering, adding to its appeal.
