REVIEW: Tiong Bahru Yi Sheng Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee at ABC Brickworks Food Centre

This particular store is famous among the Queenstown area and is located at ABC Food centre. As they are quite well-known, the queue can be quite long. It can take up to 15 to 30 minutes for your plate of yummy Hokkien mee to be served. The noodles here were tender and flavorful crustacean sauce made the dish moist and palatable. I have forgotten how many prawns are there in my plate but the prawns are size-ably good. Give this a try if you like your Hokkien Mee moist like me. :)

Address: 6 Jalan Bukit Merah, ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-13 , Singapore 799501
Opening Hours: 3pm - 10.45pm

REVIEW: Creamier Cafe at Toa Payoh

Creamier is undoubtedly the most crowded cafe among many in Toa Payoh. I was quite hesitant to visit as it is always so packed full of people. It is located at Toa Payoh and is walk-able distance from Braddell MRT Station. Their menu consists of ice cream, waffles and beverages(coffee and tea). It is not wise to sit for long and chill over coffee here as there may be people waiting for seats. Try to be there early morning to avoid the crowd and to secure seating.

Address: 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-835

Opening Hours: Monday - Closed
Tuesday - Thursday & Sunday - 12pm - 10pm
Friday - Saturday - 12pm - 11pm

Creamier is a rather small shop though! The interior is quite artsy though. The walls are decorated with picture frames and the ceiling with hanging lights. The interior also has a wooden feel because of the choice of wooden cabinets, counters, tables and chairs.

I ordered this sea salt gula melaka ice cream with waffles, The texture of the waffle is fluffy and had the right fragrant and consistency to it. The waffle itself is lightly sweetened and is good with or without the ice cream. :) Maybe that's why this shop is so popular. The standard here is definitely on par with Sunday Folks.

The sea salt gula melaka ice cream is like the frosting on the cake and completes the overall dining experience. The flavor is not really salty and is well balanced with the gula melaka flavor.

REVIEW: Take 2 Cafe at Novena

Take 2 Cafe is sells local old school delights in a hipster setting. The menu consists of local food such as Mee Hoon Kway, Lor Mee and Nasi Lemak. It is basically hawker food in a much atas setting. :) Just make your order at the counter and collect once it is ready.

Address: 159 Thomson Road
Goldhill Centre, Thomson Road, Novena (NS20), Central, Singapore 307612,
Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday 8.00am to 8.00pm

The cafe is quite spacious and long. It can accommodate quite alot of people. The decoration is quite 'hipster' with white walls and old school benches and stools. The place is quite well-illuminated with spot lights. The cafe is quite busy during lunch hours on weekdays so be prepared to wait.

I ordered their Cod Fish Fillet Lor Mee (SGD $6.50). There are alot of ingredients here! As you can see, there's cod fish fillet, braised egg and pork belly. The noodles are crunchy and had the right consistency. The gravy here is also quite flavorful and it is one of the better Lor Mee that I have eaten.

REVIEW: Studio Cafe at Toa Payoh

Studio Cafe is a halal cafe in Toa Payoh. They sell mainly local Malay and some western food. The cafe is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating with no air condition. The food here can be priced at a lower price due to their portion and setting. Despite this, Muslim friends can enjoy cafe food at Toa payoh too. :)

Address: Blk 47 Toa Payoh Lorong 6
#01-131 Singapore 310047
Opening hours: Monday - 12pm - 10pm
Tuesday - Sunday - 9am - 11pm

I ordered Chicken Nasi Goreng (SGD $5.50). The level of spiciness can be adjusted here as well. Just let their staff know. Fried rice is fry with chicken, corn, peas and carrot topped with spring onions. It is served with fish crackers and a slice of tomato and cucumber. Not sure if i will be back as these kind of food are sold at hawker centre at a more affordable rate and is as good or even better.

REVIEW: Maco Vintage Cafe at Johor Bahru

Second pit stop was to have our morning tea break here at Maco Vintage cafe. Was generally impressed with their spacious and bright environment. Definitely welcoming and leaves a good impression. I guess Maco's specialty would have to be their Millie crepe cake! I would definitely come back to try out the other cakes. :)

Address: Jalan Ibrahim, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hour: Monday - Friday 11am - 10pm
Saturday - Sunday 10am - 10pm

They have these food quotes up on their walls.

Super spacious and they have free WiFi as well. Good for students to visit. :)

They have a second storey too! Have to order the cake at the counter towards the rear.

Look at the wide selection of cakes :)

Ordered 3-in-1. It think it consists of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. The cake is average though. Nothing surprising and not exactly creamy.

Menu for you to select your favorite flavor. They don't just sell cakes though. They do have main dishes too. Did not look at the menu for that.

REVIEW: Faculty of Caffeine cafe at Johor Bahru

Our first stop is faculty of caffeine! Took us quite awhile to find this place as we didn't really know where this place is despite the map. Went to city square customer service counter to inquire about the location and the lady kindly told us it is actually just opposite this galleria shopping center and beside plaza seni.

Address: 106, Jalan Trus, Johor Bahru
Opening Hours: 9am - 6pm daily

The whole place is quite small and gives off this industrial vibe with their choice of flooring, lighting and furniture.

Not sure what plant is this but it appeared everywhere in food styling posts. lol

Look at these gorgeous filament lamps

We waited quite awhile for our drinks and food to be served! I think they're either really shorthanded in the kitchen or they're really particular in the quality of their food. It is not really crowded at that moment. Made good use of the nice props to take some nice photos! As their name suggests, faculty of caffeine as the authority of coffee serves really good coffee as well. :)

The food finally arrived after much waiting. Faculty of Caffeine's breakfast brunch set is named "Generous Breakfast". Both of us were really hungry! This was so good!! Scrambled eggs were so creamy, mushrooms were sautéed sufficiently and juicy, same goes to their grilled tomatoes. The ham was alright as well. The toast was kind of hard, despite all the goodness. I never really liked this kind of toasts.  Will try out other dishes if I have the chance to visit again.

REVIEW: The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen cafe at Johor Bahru

Exploring JB cafe scene has always been at the back of my mind. So glad I am able to fulfill this before 2016! JB has always been about going to City Square for me and I am not sure when this cafe scene here started booming! There are so many cafes here but I only have the stomach to explore 3 of them. Will be writing them separately.

Thank you to whoever made this simple map! The cafes are basically around the Jalan Dhoby Area. You exit from the McDonalds at City Square Mall and cross the canal and make your way there. It is around 15 to 20 minutes on foot.

This is my 3rd stop for the day actually.

The replacement lodge and kitchen cafe
Address: 33 & 34 Jalan Dhoby
80000 Johor Bahru, Johor
Opening Hours: 10.00am to 7.00pm (Mon-Fri)
9.00am to 10.00pm (Sat)
10.00am to 7.00pm (Sun)

The sign is not very prominent but look out for this shop-house with its all white exterior. That's my friend waiting for me while I snap this picture.

The interior is quite spacious! They have this huge communal table and other small tables scattered throughout. Their cafe interior is quite well-organised and is so modern and chic with walls and simple decorations which makes it super instagrammable.

Saw many people taking pictures with the kinfolk magazine. Grab two of these and snap a #flatlay picture with my rose flavored latte. The aroma of rose is not overpowering while retaining the fragrant coffee taste. Latte art is on point here as well. :)

Here's my Friendly egg benedict. Not very friendly though!! There's an abundance of Hollandaise sauce here which is good but the buttery spinach has such a bitter aftertaste. So off-putting. Suggestion to remove that. :( Fluffy english muffin is not really fluffy after all as all the sauces, egg, spinach and salmon has made it really soggy. There was a choice to customize the toppings though. Smoked salmon/beef pastrami or sauteed portobello mushroom.

Smoked salmon was thick and good though. :) Not sure if i would order this next time.

My friend ordered the croque madame here which was so much better than mine. :X Anything cheesy is nice to me. haha.

A shot of me with the famous cafe! So many people have posted a selfie of themselves sitting here on this chair. So it is mandatory I have a picture here. :X
