REVIEW: NOM - Bistro & Bakery

NOM Bistro and bakery is located at Macpherson Commnuity Club. I went on a Thursday afternoon expecting the place to be super crowded but as expected neighborhood cafes are kind of quiet! Nowadays I am just hunting for cafes that allows me to work on my assignments but now that i have submitted my last one yesterday and EXAMS is just around the corner! arghh..

Address:  Level 1, Macpherson Community Club, 400 Paya Lebar Way
Opening Hours: Daily: 11am - 10pm

Okay enough ranting!

It was a quiet afternoon when I arrived. They have a pretty spacious place and there's plenty of seats available. Social media is raving about their Rainbow cake! So here I am, with my durable lap top for a cup of coffee and cake! :)

They have a very colorful outlook.

Lots of drink choices! Looks like people can come hang out at night too as they serve alcohol as well.

Here's the cake! Salted caramel flavored! If you have read some of my previous posts, I have mentioned that I love salty flavors. lol The cake sponge is not exactly fluffy but this is one of my fav cakes because of the added flavored cream. The presentation of the cake is also commendable. This reminds of the egg ben i had at Dolce Tokyo.

My coffee and cake. Not exactly nice looking so its at the background. Coffee is not too bad.

What's not to love about this place! Quiet! Nice cakes! WIFI! It is awesome for students and adults who need to do work! I will pop by for lunch soon when my exam starts!

REVIEW: The Daily Press at Toa Payoh

The daily press is one of the newer cafes at Toa Payoh. They're primarily a sandwich cafe but they are coming up with new items slowly. Their name is derived from the sandwich press they use for their sandwiches. They're also like few minutes away from the popular waffles and ice cream shop, Creamier. Toa Payoh is definitely on the rise as new cafes opens.

Address: 126 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-561 Singapore 310126
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30am to 9:30pm

Here's the menu:

Latte! This is not too bad! They have these lovely flowers adoring each table and a small note that states their facebook and instagram page. :)

Cafe mocha and latte!

This is the korean fried chicken sandwich. I feel that their bread is too cripsy and hard and it makes it difficult to consume. The filling in between contains a cripsy fried chicken which is cripsy in the outside and tender inside. There's also kimchi which further enhances the taste and Korean element is strong in this dish. haha. Their kimchi are also cut and marinated in house. There's also greens as side but I don't quite like that.

You can see the kimchi and chicken from this view.

The texture of the bread remains the same. Beetroot and orange housecured salmon sandwich with smoked yogurt, apple and spiced walnuts. Didn't like the taste of the salmon though. I can hardly taste any salmon with all the other ingredients overpowering.

They need to come up with more varieties of main dishes and perhaps more variation of sandwiches to keep up with competition. :)

REVIEW: Brew Maison cafe

Initially i was drawn to this cafe because of their cute latte art! Turns out their main focus is not that and their artist is not around when i was there. They are coming up with their new menu in April which is something i look forward to!

Anyway they're a Japanese Korean fusion cafe. Their design is quite Korean tbh. It gives off a very pastel and country vibe with the wooden fences and colorful walls. They also have a small pot of flowers at each table as decorations.

Also like i said, they have no latte art whatsoever. LOL. But i was kind of drawn to them because of the quiet environment. idk why their cafe is always like a ghost town every night but it is such a conducive environment for me to study and work on my assignments! Yay for me but probably bad for them? :X Their location is quite ULU though. It is situated near singapore chinese girls school and in the middle of no where. I guess it somehow affects their business.

Address: Alocassia Apartment, 383 Bukit Timah Rd, 259727
Opening hours: Mon - Fri: 7am - 10pm
                         Sat - Sun: 8am - 10pm

Here's their mix and match menu!

  1. Firstly, you choose the kind of meat you want. There's chicken, pork, beef and fish. Vegetables are not available.
  2. After that you choose the kind of dish you want to have. You have rice, pasta, bread(sandwich) or wraps!
  3. Lastly, you choose the sauce. There is brown, red, teriyaki, BBQ and curry sauce to choose from.
  4. If you fancy some side dishes, you also have a list to choose from. :)

I ordered a matcha drink with pasta with chicken in curry sauce. The food there is not really fantastic but it was okay for the price i paid for. You can see from their dish that they have some Japanese style there with the seaweed on top of the chicken fillet.

Close up of my drink with the white flowers in the background!

I was there the second time to study again. This time i ordered their latte. They serve their drinks in a cute cup with their logo printed on it. Coffee was decent and drinkable.

I basically ordered the same dish again but with different sauce! Brown sauce is a kind of sweet and salty sauce. Not sure if its Korean though. There's slices of onion on it.

Close up!

All in all their food is kind of average but it is worth my money because of the good environment! I hope they can come up with a different varieties of main dishes that can captivate and attract more customers! Oh I forgot to mention they have awesome WIFI so i always bring my lap top there to work. Not sure if they have any power sockets though so always bring a fully-charged laptop! :)

REVIEW: Cozy Corner Coffee at Everton Park

Aptly named cafe really lives up to it's name as cozy corner coffee. The cafe offers a quiet and peaceful environment that makes their patrons feel cozy. It is a good environment for people to study or work. Good for people like me who needs a stress free no distraction environment! I was at SGH for a medical appointment so I decided to bring my lap top out and work a bit on my assignment.

The cafe offers all day breakfast and serves other mains such as pastas as well.

Address: 4 EVERTON PARK #01-50 SINGAPORE 080004
Opening Hours: 8:30AM – 7:30PM

This one of the selections for the all day breakfast! Bread, greens, Scrambled egg, cherry tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms and chickens slices made up this dish. The chicken and mushroom were the saving grace of this dish. The scrambled eggs were a tad too dry and not moist or creamy enough. Bread was too hard and does not provide the extra crisp for each bite. Found it rather blah and limply. Don't really like salads in general. Would rather cafes offer something else.

The chicken was tender and nice though! There was no need for extra seasoning. Sauteed mushroom was just nice as well.

I don't know whether they serve all their lattes the same way but I had the exact same cup and plate the other time i was here.  Talk about deja vu. LOL. Coffee was okay, not fantastic but it serves its purpose.
